Favre has certainly put Green Bay in a predicament by coming out of retirement. They have Aaron Rogers who will most likely become a fine quarterback. And with Favre's earlier announced retirement, GB has begun building their team around Rogers. Rogers himself expects to be the starter; he could be the starting QB on many teams. So GB can't just drop all of their planning of the past 5 months and Rogers can't just suddenly be kicked out of the pilot's seat just because an "icon" changes his mind. Yet Favre coming back as the backup QB would be extremely difficult for him to accept, Rogers would be constantly looking over his shoulder and justifiably worried with a rash of interceptions or a bad game (the elite in that position has always had those). Plus the fans and media in Packerland would have a tizzy if Favre were to come back as anything but the starter.
Now Favre wants to be released, which would allow him to play anywhere, including (gasp) Chicago. Wouldn't that be a ball-buster! And since the Bears are in the same division as the Packers, that ain't gonna happen.
So general manager Ted Thompson has no choice but to trade Brett Favre. And he can pretty much eliminate the eight teams (which includes the Cowboys) who will play in GB this season. He would most likely not want to trade Favre to any team in the NFC.
Training camp begins in 10-14 days. I love football.
