He was shot in the arm by friendly fire in the evening after the Battle of Chancellorsville. His arm had to be amputated and it was buried there. Eight days later he died. The rest of his body was transported to Virginia Military Institute where it was buried.

If there is a headstone at VMI I wonder if there is an armstone at Chancellorsville?
