The $14 Peach Cobbler
A violin, a middle school orchestra and goddaughter-the-younger Catie lured me into paying fourteen dollars for 2 pounds of peach cobbler. Never mind that the Mrs. Smith's brand is ten dollars cheaper at Wal-Mart. Mine came with 2 hugs and an "I love you."

Happy Birthday Sherri
Three things:
Think the world of you;
Wish the world for you;
World of love to you.
And thank you for not laughing too much when I sang "Happy Birthday" this morning.

I Got Taken
And I thought I was street smart.
I'm leaving a branch of the Dallas Public Library and was approached by a woman. I thought she said "bus," and having heard all sorts of pleas asking for bus money to visit a dying mother in some hospital, shook my head. She insisted on me hearing her, and simply wanted a ride to Walgreens about 8 blocks away. I agreed to help her. While driving she talked and talked. Then I dropped her off and continued down the road. After about 4 blocks I noticed the $6 and a burger coupon were missing from my console.

Utility Bills
So we sit around and drink beer and solve the world's problems and the question, "How much was your (fill in the blank) bill last month?" always comes up. So here's the latest for the, ahem, 3253 sf living space abode:
•Electricity $380.52 (7/11-8/11) Not bad.
•Water $94.77
•Gas $38.30

Had To Call 911
So I noticed this guy walking down the alley, but he wasn't familiar. White, tall and slender, short blond hair, light blue jeans, smoking a cigarette. What I did notice was him eyeing out my truck, which was parked in the driveway. A few minutes later I am in the garage and the truck alarm goes off. I knew immediately that he tried to break in, so I jumped up and yelled, "You S.O.B. You bastard." I ran to the garage window, but he was long gone.
Had to go back inside to get the key to turn off the alarm. Then I called 911. Oh yeah, it was 8:00 pm. Gave them the details, then made some phone calls while on the back porch. Ten minutes later the Dallas Police show up, I gave them the same details that I had given the dispatcher, and the officer patrolled the neighborhood. Nothing was stolen, and I never heard back from anyone. But I hope that alarm made the guy shit in his pants.

Stars Autographs
As in Dallas Stars. At one time I owned a store in Valley Ranch and met many Cowboys and Stars. Todd Harvey was a regular and, with my store being a retail outlet for personalized rubber stamps, he asked me if he could get one with his signature on it. I accomodated him. Then Joe Nieuwendyk came in for his signature stamp. Richard Matvichuk did so also. Richard, also a regular, fessed up. The players were getting more requests for autographed trading cards than they could possibly sign. Hence the rubber stamps of the signatures.

Happy Birthday Steve
So in your honor here is Foo Fighters singing Learn to Fly on Letterman.
For best results, hit the pause button and let it buffer a few seconds, then hit play.

Boxer Going To Beijing
Luis Yanez is the only athlete I've ever met that's going to the Olympics. We met at the Dallas Golden Gloves last February where he made an appearance, but not as a participant. He had been kicked off the team July 1 after missing three weeks of training camp and a tour of Argentina without permission. Yanez said he was tending to his sister, who was in drug rehab, and her four children. After his appeal to the USA Boxing judicial committee was rejected, he threatened to go to an independent arbitrator. A deal was soon worked out for him to return.
Luis fights in the 106 pound light flyweight division. He trains at the GTO gym in Oak Cliff, near the corner of S. Polk and Brooklyn Ave.

Text Message From Jenny
Received yesterday (Wednesday) afternoon:
I'm 7 weeks
I knew what that meant. Per the phone call just a little later, the tentative date is January 26. She had told Brad that there was a baby in her belly. He asked her to open her mouth. Did he think a big toe might be sticking out?

Happy Birthday Chet
Today is June 9, 2008, so it must be 31 candles for you.
I can remember when you lived on Santa Maria Ct. in Albuquerque and always kept the patio door unlocked because your previous roomy had the only key to the house and took it with him when he moved out.
